Meet the Team
Michael Kroner, MA, M.Ed, LPC, EMDR-C
Founder and Clinical DirectorMike Kroner is a Licensed Professional Counselor, clinical director, clinical supervisor, educator, and founder of Kroner and Associates Counseling. Since entering the behavioral health field in 2017, Mike has built a career that has allowed him to experience mental health care from nearly every level of the system—from direct work with individuals and families to clinical leadership, collaboration with county agencies and community systems, supervision of clinicians, and the development and leadership of outpatient mental health services. That breadth of experience shapes the clinician he is today.
Mike holds a Master of Arts in Counseling, a Master of Education in Health and Physical Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His multidisciplinary education gives him a perspective that extends beyond traditional clinical training, combining counseling and behavioral health with education, leadership, organizational development, and an understanding of the connection between psychological and physical well-being.
Mike also holds professional teaching certifications, and his background as an educator continues to influence his work as both a therapist and clinical supervisor. He believes that good therapy involves more than listening—it often involves helping people understand themselves, recognize patterns, develop new skills, and learn how to apply insight outside of the therapy room.
As a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Mike has pursued advanced clinical training throughout his career, including specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). His clinical approach integrates Existential Therapy with other approaches customized to each client he sees.
Throughout his career, Mike has worked with individuals and families whose lives intersect with complex mental health, behavioral, educational, family, and community systems. His professional experience has included collaboration with Children and Youth Services (CYS), Juvenile Probation, county systems, schools, families, behavioral health providers, and other community professionals. He has seen firsthand how mental health intersects with families, schools, courts, social services, community resources, physical health, relationships, and the environments in which people actually live. A former personal trainer, Mike is an avid proponent of somatic practices as an avenue to assist one’s mental health.
Mike has served as both a Clinical Supervisor as well as a Clinical Director of Outpatient Services for community organizations, providing clinical leadership within an outpatient behavioral health setting. In that role, his responsibilities expanded beyond providing therapy to include supporting clinicians, overseeing clinical services, navigating complex cases, collaborating with other professionals and systems, and helping ensure the quality and effectiveness of mental health treatment. His career has consequently given him the opportunity to understand behavioral health from multiple perspectives: as a direct-care professional, therapist, educator, clinical supervisor, clinical director, community collaborator, and private-practice owner.
When someone enters Mike's office, he is not simply considering a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. He is considering the whole person—their relationships, family system, history, environment, physical experience, values, responsibilities, losses, choices, and the larger systems that may be influencing their life. Despite his education, leadership experience, and years working throughout the mental health system, Mike does not believe therapy works best when the therapist positions himself as the authority on another person's life. He is simply a fellow traveler.
Mike brings nearly a decade of clinical and behavioral health experience, graduate education, leadership experience, specialized training, and professional judgment into the therapy room. The client brings their lived experience, and collaboratively, both work together to accomplish the client’s goals. This philosophy creates a relationship that is collaborative without being passive. Mike's therapeutic style is warm, conversational, direct, curious, and appropriately challenging. He works actively with clients to recognize patterns, understand relationships, examine how past experiences continue to influence the present, and confront difficult questions when those questions are necessary for meaningful change.
